This month I'm featuring
Godfrey Birtill's testimony. I have been in
relationship with Godfrey since 1998 and we have partnered together
in ministry many times over the years. He is the most radical
worship leader I know. Here is his story.
During the 80's Godfrey and his wife Gill had moved to South Wales,
where he was a professional photographer. He even had the
opportunity to photo Prince Charles. As he discerned his career in
photography was coming to a close, he heard about "The Revival On
Marsham Street" in London (1997), hosted by Christian leader Gerald
Coates.
Godfrey states that, "at one of these meetings Texan preacher Dale
Gentry was speaking. Dale was speaking on Breakout, going beyond
ourselves; acceleration by faith. I remember he spoke on Psalms 18,
WITH MY GOD I CAN LEAP OVER A WALL, and as Dale explained the wall
is often the point we get to and then disqualify ourselves from
going any further, through age or circumstances. We'll come up with
some excuse as to why we should stay the side of the wall within our
own limitations, where God is calling us to move in the
supernatural. I believe it was time I got over the wall and God was
there to GIVE ME A LEG UP (must be British talk)."
Godfrey continues, following the Marsham Street meetings, Martin
Scott, a writer and speaker from within the Pioneer Movement,
launched a prayer initiative called Sowing Seeds for Revival. It was
on those prayer walks that Godfrey's songwriting career really took
off. His song list includes His song list includes BREAKOUT,
(co-written by Dale Gentry), OUTRAGEOUS GRACE, FERTILE GROUND and
many others. A few months ago one of Godfreys songs was #1 on the
Christian music charts in the UK.
Today, Godfrey and his wife Gill live in Lincoln, England where he
works with Stuart Bell at New Life Church. Godfrey also continues to
minister with Dale Gentry and will be with him in Baytown, Texas
September 10-12.
